《世界末日之剧》作于1973年，是奥尔夫78岁高龄时创作的最后一部大作。此剧1973年8月20日在萨尔茨堡戏剧节首演，是一部神秘剧，非常抽象，整体效果很炫酷。合唱团像一堆肉体一样从地面破出，大概代表了芸芸众生与生命的重生。音乐上很是不寻常，时而有响亮震耳的打击乐，时而只有平静的管弦乐演奏，这种起伏真的是让人在体会到世俗纷乱的焦躁后，又回归到宁静，无论你能听懂多少唱词，都有不同寻常的感受。
